This past weekend I was in Fruita for the Mountain States Cup Rabbit Valley Rally Race. To summarize in haiku:
Drives were snow and ice
Ride hard, not best, that’s o.k.
thanks mom, dad. Next time!
Yeah, I’m talented. Who knew engineers could be poets?
Basically, the drive to and from the race were horrible. It was great to be in the desert and to experience the retired life, camping in a delux pop-up with my parents. The time-trial on Saturday went pretty well. This was my 3rd time racing on this course. The first time I raced it I had to walk 2-3 sections. Last year, I walked one section. This year I rode everything with no issues. How’s that for improvement?! It wasn’t good enough to beat Teal Stetson-Lee as she beat me by ~20 seconds. She’s got some skills, so that’s ok!
Sunday was the cross-country race. Long story short-I felt good for the first half, not so great the second half. At 32 miles, it’s a long course which took it’s toll on me. I didn’t take the race seriously enough with my preparation I think.
After a very long and scary drive home, it was time to hit the hay and get mentally ready for the work week.
